TENSION & TRAUMA RELEASING EXERCISES

When we experience stress or trauma, our bodies instinctively respond with the fight-or-flight response. Unlike animals who naturally shake off the tension after a threat has passed, humans often suppress these primal responses. This can lead to a buildup of unresolved stress which can negatively impact our mental and physical health.

Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) is an accessible series of exercises that assist the body in releasing stress, tension and trauma. The activation of the natural shaking or tremor reflex is based on the fundamental idea that stress and trauma is both psychological and physical. When this shaking mechanism is activated in a safe environment, the body is encouraged to return to a state of balance.

Shaking/tremoring takes us out of the fight-flight-freeze loop, helping to regulate our nervous system which results in a deep sense of relaxation.

4. Integration: You’ll gradually return to a state of calm and relaxation.
